What is Nani? 

Nani is the Hawaiian word for “beautiful", and our mission is to create swimwear that empowers women to live a #nanilife by seeking adventure, being kind, and striving to give back.

We chose the name Nani because we want to inspire and encourage all women to feel confident and beautiful while wearing a swimsuit …to encourage them to get out there and just HAVE FUN.

Nani’s concept of ACTIVE swim has found a niche in the swimwear market which was not being fulfilled. The Nani brand embraces strength and confidence with swimwear that not only looks good, but feels good! Designed with adventurous women in mind, Nani is all about getting outside and moving! From surfing to hiking, swimming, shredding, and diving in head first, women wearing a Nani suit will never have to worry about “bikini fail.”

Our Story

Several years ago, Marissa Barlow was desperately shopping online for a swimsuit- one that was fashion-forward, had enough coverage, and sold for a reasonable price. After many frustrating hours of finding nothing, she asked her mom if they could just start our own swimsuit company. Janna laughed at the ridiculous idea and dismissed it immediately. Discouraged but not defeated, Marissa began secretly sketching her own swimsuit designs.

Two years later, Marissa approached Janna again when Amy Rasmussen, their friend and neighbor, was over to discuss starting a blog together, and this time we all agreed it could be a good idea. We decided to go for it, not having a clue what they were in for.

After a year of research and development, learning from the school of hard knocks how to start a swimwear company from the ground up, we launched! Nani was born in 2016 when we released our very first official swimsuit collection. We were so proud and excited!

Each year, we are learning and growing and improving our product in every way we can and each year gets better and better. We are thrilled and humbled by our success and grateful for the opportunity to be part of an all women-owned business. We love and appreciate the support of all our Nani fans!
