As an active teenager, Marissa couldn't find a swimsuit that fit the way she wanted to live. The options felt pretty simple: a string bikini that stayed put until you actually moved, or a full coverage one piece that felt more grandma's cruise than paddle board adventure.
There wasn't much in between.
She wanted coverage without feeling covered up. Support without sacrificing style. A swimsuit she could swim, hike, paddle board, and chase adventure in without constantly adjusting it.
Turns out, we weren't the only ones.
When Marissa teamed up with Amy and Janna, we realized we weren't solving a problem for just one woman. We were solving it for thousands of women who were tired of choosing between style, coverage, and performance.
So we built Nani around one simple belief:
Women Know What Women Want.
Not what trends say you should wear.
Not what the fashion industry says you should buy.
What real women actually reach for when they're headed to the beach, the lake, the trail, or anywhere adventure calls.
Every piece starts with one question:
Would we wear this ourselves?
If the answer isn't yes, we keep working.
From thoughtful fits and stay put support to size-inclusive styles and versatile adventure apparel, everything we create is designed to help women move freely and feel confident. We believe the best gear is the gear you stop thinking about the second your adventure begins.
We packed our first orders in a basement.
Today, Nani has grown into a nationally recognized women's swimwear and adventure apparel brand, but our mission hasn't changed. We still design thoughtfully made pieces for women who'd rather be outside than sitting still. Whether you're paddle boarding at sunrise, hiking to an alpine lake, exploring a new city, or spending the afternoon at the neighborhood pool, we want you thinking about the adventure—not your outfit.
The name Nani comes from the Hawaiian word meaning beautiful.
To us, beautiful has never been about perfection.
It's saying yes to the trip.
Jumping in the water.
Trying something new.
Helping a friend.
Taking the long way home.
Living fully.
That's what we mean when we say Live Nani.
We're so glad you're here.
